My contributions to Mayterials 2025 put on by The Club discord server. I've always wanted to take a swing at this challenge in past years but never really had the time to devote to it. Given that I've had an abundance of time recently it seemed worth throwing myself into wholeheartedly!
I managed to come up with answers to the prompts that let me spend some time making shapes, patterns and material types that I was less familiar with and in other cases I tried to refine my approaches for a bunch of them that I already felt comfortable with. This challenge even helped me identify a lot of commonly used node strings that I've now converted into standalone utility graphs that I'm using in personal projects going forward.
Everything is created 100% in Substance designer from scratch (yes even the Workshop tools and the FMA Alchemy circle) And most of it was built in real time for the challenge. The only real exceptions there are that I did use existing graphs of Moss and Plaster from a previous project (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/1NOZJ8) and some node groupings from earlier bricks to get a start on the weathering of some of the brick and rock shapes in a few of the graphs. These images are just pulled from the Substance viewport and assembled in Clip Studio Paint.
Eventually I wanna take some video renders of each one, ideally in UE5 so I can do some fun effects like blinks for the "Gloom" eyes or pulses on the "Illuminated" gems and what not. That way I can show off how each one catches the light in motion, but for now I wanted to get them all collected together and uploaded. I'm pleased with what I was able to put together for this challenge, and I even managed to keep pace with the challenge for the most part.
Big thanks to The Club discord server for organizing things, looking forward to participating in future challenges!
(Also big thanks to https://www.artstation.com/d4ku/store?tab=digital_product their Lathe node was instrumental in creating the jars and vases for the "Ceramic" material)
